Job Description
SEN Teacher – Uxbridge – ASAP Start
Remedy Recruitment are supporting a school who are keen to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and committed PSHE/C and Humanities teacher to join them on a full-time basis. You will be required to plan, prepare, and mark PSHE/C and Humanities lessons across KS3/4. The successful PSHE/C and Humanities teacher will be able to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge, good interaction, and engagement with students with the support of their friendly department. You must hold relevant teaching qualification and a clear DBS that is registered to the update service.

All the students at the school have an EHCP (Education Health and Care Plan), with a primary need of SEN and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health). Some exhibit very challenging behaviour and Mainstream schooling is not always the most appropriate setting for them. Sometimes their first encounter of school has been chaotic and certainly challenging, many have had a fragmented education and have fallen behind their peers academically. This often results in self-esteem issues and anti-social behaviour.
The students are at KS3/4 however having primary training better prepares the teacher to deliver the differentiated programmes given that students cognitive development and social and emotional levels are well below their chronological age. Knowledge of ASD specific strategies are essential. The school's Positive Behaviour Support Teamwork with the class team to develop strategies and their own relationships with the students so they are able to support any student who may demonstrate behaviours of concern. The class support team are experienced members of staff, who will support the students well under the leadership of the class teacher.
With small classes and amazing staff that truly understand the student's needs, the school feel that once a student starts with them, they have every opportunity to turn their lives around. Every child has the right to achieve, and they believe that every parent and carer has the right to expect that the school will do its very best for their child. With this in mind, the staff work closely with parents and carers and other agencies to help each student make positive choices and changes which will serve them better in their future.
A key feature that the school try to adopt is teaching the students to take responsibility for their behaviour and consequences. The staff teach them to try and put things right when they go wrong, together with learning the values of tolerance and respect for themselves and others.
All candidates must:
Be experienced and enjoy teaching students with additional needs and demonstrate initiative, flexibility and resilience. Being organised is key to the effectiveness of the teaching role.Provide an enhanced DBS registered on the update service. If you do not hold a valid DBS be willing to apply for a new DBS.
If you have been a UK resident for less than 5 years, a right to work visa must be provided and a criminal background check certificate must be provided for any country resided in for 6 months or more within the past 5 years.
