Job Description

Job description
Job Title:  Learning Support Assistant – SEN/Mental Health Learning Support Assistant role
Location: Bristol
Salary Scale: £78-85 per day
Start Date: May/June

Are you motivated by supporting and helping vulnerable children?
Do you know your reasons for wanting to work in the SEN and Mental Health Sectors?

GSL are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support children with Special Educational Needs, social, emotional, and mental health challenges and traumas, and associated challenging behaviours. Some children / young people will have suffered adverse childhood experiences, and you will identify their risks and needs, escalating where necessary. You will be joining a friendly, energetic, and creative team!  Working within a Mental Health and Trauma setting is incredibly challenging, together, we will qualify and disqualify the sectors for yourself, ensuring we are focused on the right ones for you.
The school focuses on employing graduates and no graduates, it’s the sincerity of candidates that they are looking for.  You must be pragmatic and compassionate, these fundamentals are at the core of succeeding in this role.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will have the opportunity to ‘get your foot in the door’ enabling you to expand your knowledge, skillset, and gain relevant practical experience.
A common feature for many children and young people with special educational needs is marginalisation and disadvantage, trauma, dysfunctional family relationships, low educational attainment, and stigmatisation. Subsequently they face many barriers in life and are more ‘at risk’ of negative outcomes. You will be instrumental in providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
