Job Description

Please note this is a fixed term contract for 3 month duration. The salary will be pro rata of £32,502- £37,887 for the 3 months. There is a permanent contract available, dependant on performance this is likely to be a fixed term to perm role.

Job Title: Senior Payroll & Pensions Officer

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Working as part of in the in-house payroll team providing payroll services to the London South Bank University (LSBU) group. Duties include all processing on the group’s payroll system (iTrent), pensions administration and any other payroll related tasks.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To provide an accurate and timely payroll service and ensure all deadlines are adhered to.

2. To ensure employees are set up on payroll with the correct PAYE details, pensions and allowances etc.

3. To calculate and check data relating to tax, national insurance, statutory payments (maternity, paternity, sickness etc) and any other third party deductions.

4. Pension administration, which includes auto-enrolment, checking and uploading monthly / annual reports

5. Liaise with our pension providers where necessary and help resolve any queries

6. Act as a technical expert on all payroll matters, answering queries and giving guidance when required to internal and external customers.

7. Treat sensitive information in accordance with current GDPR rules

8. To undertake the day to day System Administration of iTrent and Business Objects and develop ad-hoc payroll / pension reports as required.

9. Any other tasks as instructed by the Head of Payroll and Pensions

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

1. CIPP level 3 or equivalent desirable

2. Excellent working knowledge of statutory payroll legislation relating to key areas in the role including absence, auto enrolment, RTI and tax year en

3. Excellent numerical skills with the ability to manually perform complex gross to net calculations

4. Experience of processing payrolls using iTrent software, preferably in an educational setting

5. Advanced Excel and Word skills. Experience of writing and scheduling Business Objects reports preferable

6. Knowledge of the administrative and reporting requirements of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), Teachers’ Pension Schemes (TPS), Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and AVIVA

8. Possess a flexible approach with the ability to organise your own workload, prioritise tasks and work to deadlines both individually as part of a team

9. Customer focused with the ability to communicate at all levels clearly and concisely

10. An understanding of financial controls and accounting practices and principles in a payroll function

11. An understanding of the General Data Protection Regulation

12. Able to demonstrate an understanding of equality and diversity and its practical application.
