Job Description

Special Needs Teaching Assistant

* Post 16 Special Needs college (16 – 19 yr olds)

* Full time

* Hours are 9:00 – 3:30 Mon – Friday

* ASAP start

* ongoing contract

A Specialist Special Needs all through school in Croydon are looking for a special needs teaching assistant to support young adults aged 16 to 19 with PMLD.

The Role

In this role you will be supporting pupils with PMLD and SLD in the school's post-16 setting. You will be supporting pupils in a range of learning and development programmes designed to develop independence and skills for life. You will be involved in supporting pupils in therapy sessions alongside communications and sensory sessions in the specialist school facilities.

The school are open to applications from those with an SEND support background both in education and care settings as well as those who are keen to enter the sector. The most important skills that the school are looking for is a keen, proactive and ready to get stuck in attitude. The school have excellent training for staff and will be able to provide this for new starters.

The school

This Croydon Maintained Community School is for pupils aged 2-19 with physical disabilities, complex medical needs, complex speech and language difficulties and associated learning difficulties, moderate(MLD), severe(SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). There is a dedicated team of teachers, teaching assistants and a care team, nurses and therapists at the school all led by a dedicated and focused senior management team. The school benefits from an excellent range of specialist facilities to support pupils in their development including a hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, trampolines for rebound therapy, creative therapy spaces, wheel chair accessible play equipment and outdoor spaces. The school offers excellent training and development opportunities to their staff and is easily accessible by both car and public transport.
