Job Description

Our client is a leading main contractor with an opportunity for a Systems Safety Manager to join their team on a permanent basis in London Euston delivering HS2.

Job Summary

As the System Safety Manager you will have overall responsibility to manage the System Safety function to deliver the intent of, and complies with the System Safety Strategy. The successful candidate will provide System Safety leadership and guidance the client, the team and the sub-consultants and sub-contractors working across all technical lifecycle stages.

Responsibilities

Application and management of Engineering Safety Management to comply with EU regulations and UK legislation including the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment Regulations, Health & Safety at Work Act, Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems [Safety] Regulations [ROGS], the Railways [Interoperability] Regulations [RIR] and Construction [Design & Management] Regulations [CDM]. .
Application of National Technical Specification Notices [NTSNs].
Author, own and implement the System Safety Management Plan.
Hazard Management including hazard identification, hazard analysis & evaluation, and hazard closure.
Where required Explicit Risk Estimation & Evaluation to be performed that may be qualitative or quantitative.
Author crucial safety documentation including but not limited to System Definitions, Safety Cases, Hazard Records and Safety Justification Reports.
Produce System Safety Status Reports at the end of a lifecycle stage to allow progression to the next stage.
Coordinate the interfaces and the management of risk with other project risk registers including CDM risk register, project risk register, environmental risk register, assumptions risk register and the security risk register.

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience required

Educated to degree or higher level in a construction discipline. A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND or a fully recorded vocational training to an equivalent level may be acceptable where a significant level of experience in a technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
Previous experience in a similar role with aligned responsibilities & accountabilities.
Membership of an appropriate professional body.
